Position Summary:
The Onsite Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing all material management activities on assigned commercial and industrial construction projects. This position ensures materials, tools, and equipment are received, inspected, inventoried, stored, and distributed efficiently to support project schedules. The Onsite Materials Manager works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, vendors, and suppliers to ensure the right materials are available at the right time while maintaining accurate inventory records and minimizing waste. This role is critical to keeping projects on schedule and maintaining DKD Enterprises' commitment to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage all onsite material receiving, storage, inventory, and distribution.
- Verify deliveries against purchase orders and packing slips.
- Inspect incoming materials for damage, shortages, or incorrect items and report discrepancies immediately.
- Maintain organized laydown yards, storage containers, and warehouse areas.
- Coordinate daily material requests with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen.
- Schedule and monitor deliveries to ensure materials arrive according to project schedules.
- Maintain accurate inventory records using company tracking systems.
- Conduct routine inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies.
- Coordinate returns, warranty claims, and replacement materials with vendors.
- Track and safeguard company-owned tools, equipment, and consumables.
- Operate forklifts, telehandlers, and other material handling equipment safely (as certified).
- Ensure materials are stored according to manufacturer recommendations and OSHA safety requirements.
- Maintain clean, organized, and secure material storage areas.
- Minimize material waste and identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Assist with material forecasting and procurement planning.
- Work closely with purchasing personnel regarding material availability and lead times.
- Maintain documentation including delivery tickets, packing slips, inventory logs, and transfer records.
- Participate in project planning meetings regarding logistics and material flow.
- Support multiple jobsites as required.
- Perform additional duties assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 3–5 years of experience in construction material management, warehouse operations, logistics, or commercial electrical construction preferred.
- Experience with commercial and industrial electrical materials strongly preferred.
- Ability to read construction drawings, material lists, and purchase orders.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
- Experience with inventory management software is preferred.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Ability to operate material handling equipment safely.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with assistance or equipment.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work outdoors for extended periods.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to climb ladders and access construction areas safely.
Work Environment:
- Primarily works on active commercial and industrial construction sites.
- Exposure to changing weather conditions, dust, noise, and heavy equipment.
- Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Occasional travel between DKD Enterprises jobsites throughout New Mexico.
